Practice Profile

Sam served his pupillage with Mr. Albert Luk, Mr. Victor Gidwani, Mr. Stanley Siu and Mr. Richard Yip. During his pupillage, he has had wide range of exposure in general civil and criminal litigations.

Sam is currently developing a broad practice with a focus in criminal law, land law and personal injuries. He accepts instructions in all areas of law.

Sam is also a public speaker. He has given talks on Building Management, Hong Kong Basic Law, Animal Law, Intellectual Property Law and Mediation at various institutions.

Selected Cases


  • Secretary for Justice v. Chan Oi Yau Riyo [2020] 3 HKLRD 494 - First civil contempt case in relation to the Doxxing Injunction of the Police. Acted as junior to Mr. Robert Pang SC for the Defendant. Defendant admitted liability and obtained suspended sentence.
  • HKSAR v Fung Tak Cheung, DCCC 399/2020, 10 September 2020 - First case on possession or control of Ivory tusks in Hong Kong after the amendment to the Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Ordinance. Acted for Defendant in his mitigation.
  • Prescient Corporation v Dunse Trading Ltd, DCCJ 678/2019, 31 May 2019 – Appeared for Plaintiff who fell victim in an email fraud case. Successfully obtained default judgment for declaration and vesting order for the Plaintiff.
  • Ren Chao Jun v Newton Place Hotel Limited, DCPI 172/2016, 30 May 2019 – Appeared as junior to Mr. Victor Gidwani for the Defendant. Successfully resisted a personal injury claim of a hotel cleaner against her employer in a slip-and-fall accident. Held liability not established.
  • HKSAR v Lip Bai Yat & 2 Others (ESCC 2666/2017) – Assisted Mr. Albert Luk, Counsel-on-fiat to prosecute 3 Defendants who were charged with “Endangering persons or property by aircraft” for flying drones at the “Formula-E” car racing event, contrary to s.48 of the Air Navigation (Hong Kong) Order 1995, Cap. 448C, which was the first of its kind. All Defendants were eventually convicted.
